Upper back stiff from desk work? Fix it here
Upper back stiffness is usually caused by hours spent rounded over a keyboard or phone — the mid-back barely moves all day, and the muscles between the shoulder blades tighten. Thoracic rotations, chest openers and gentle extensions, done in short breaks, are the standard fix. Upper back pain with chest pain, breathlessness or after an injury needs medical attention.

Why it happens
- A rounded posture over keyboards and phones, held for hours
- The mid-back (thoracic spine) barely rotates or extends during desk work
- Tight chest muscles pulling the shoulders forward
- Stress-related tension between the shoulder blades
A few things that help
Thoracic rotations
Restores the twisting movement the mid-back is designed for.
Chest opener
Releases the front of the chest so the shoulders can sit back.
Gentle back extension
Reverses the rounded position of desk work.
The upper back is built to rotate and extend, and desk work removes both. Giving it those movements back, little and often, is usually enough to keep the stiffness from settling in.
Common questions
Why does my upper back feel tight between my shoulder blades?
That area works constantly to hold your shoulders up against a rounded posture. It tightens from overuse, not from being too strong — gentle movement and chest stretches usually ease it.
Can a stiff upper back cause neck pain?
Yes. When the mid-back won't move, the neck moves more to compensate. Working on upper back mobility often reduces neck tension too.
Ogo Reset is for everyday stiffness, not injury. If pain is sharp, getting worse, follows an injury or comes with numbness or tingling, stop and speak to a GP or physiotherapist.
